Sun Rays Technique Sample

This is a sponging technique used to create the look of rays of sunshine as the background.   I hope to have a video to show how it is done.  In the meantime, I am going to post samples the next few days.

I used So Saffron Classic Ink from Stampin' Up! for the background.

Thinking of You Butterflies Tutorial

I was having such fun with the red, white, and blue theme that I created two new cards for today and tomorrow.   I'm also including tutorials so that you can create the cards too.    These two cards used the same basic elements but each has its own distinctive look.

On the card above look closely at the whisper white and the real red.   The texture was created with the same embossing folder.   On the whisper white the image is upraised.  On the real red, it is depressed into the card stock.   Flipping the card stock after going thru the Big Shot is what creates the different look.

Stampin’ Up! Products Used:
Whisper White Card Stock, item #100730 – 1 piece 2 ½” x 3 ¼” , 3 ¾” x 5”, and 1 scrap piece
Real Red Card Stock, item #100052 – 1 ¼” x 2 ¼” and 1 scrap piece
Night of Navy Card Stock, item #100069 – 5 ½” x 8 ½”
Summer Smooches DSP, item #125409
Modern Label Paper Punch, item #119849
Word Window Paper Punch, item #119857
Elegant Butterfly Paper Punch, item #127526
Small circles, pearls, or rhinestones – 3 needed
Stampin' Dimensionals, item #104430
Textured Embossing Folder - Fancy Fan, item #127751
Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set, item #115370 - Wood OR #127802 - Clear

Directions:
1.       Fold and crease  Night of Navy Card Stock.
2.       Punch out the Modern Label Design from the Whisper White and the Real Red Card Stock pieces.
a.       Run both pieces thru the Big Shot using the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder.
b.      Attach to the card base.   (notice how the base color show thru giving the optical illusion that you have actually layered the modern label in the Night of Navy card stoc,.
3.       Stamp the sentiment and then punch out with Word Window Punch.
a.       Attach to your card centering in the modern label punched out area on.
4.       For the other modern label area, use rhinestones, pearls, or small circles to accent it.
5.       Punch out three Elegant Butterflies.
a.       Attach Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back center of each one, then attach to card.  This will allow the wings to be up from the card base which will give the illusions of flight.
6.       Attach the 3 ¾” x 5” piece to the inside of the card using SNAIL adhesive.

Bright Blossoms Card in Red, White & Blue

This is the final of the three cards I made this week showcasing red, white, and blue for their color theme.    The colors on the flower were done using markers directly on the stamp.   Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp set has 2 dozen sentiments to choose from.  I often use them stamp set in class so that students then can choose the sentiment they want/need for the card without needing to change out the paper punch we used to back the sentiment.

Announcement from Stampin' Up! - Firm Foam Stampin' Pads

Firm Foam Stampin' Pads

July 5, 2012

Basic Black Stampin' Pad

We are working on an issue with the Basic Black Classic Stampin' Pad (item 126980). We have discovered that the ink smears when stamped on Whisper White and Very Vanilla Card Stock; however, it still works on the other colors of card stock. We are testing both the ink and card stock. At this time, we do not know when this issue will be resolved and recommend using the Jet Black StazOn Ink Pad (item 101406) on Whisper White and Very Vanilla Card Stock. We are working on this daily and will let you know when we have more information.

Ink Refills

When you use the firm foam pads you get a more solid and crisp image. The firm foam pads hold less ink and release more onto your stamp which means you will need to refill the pad more frequently.
