Elegant Embossed Foil Card - Tutorial - Big Shot

Today's tutorial is "Elegant Embossed Foil Card". Who would of thought that ordinary kitchen foil could give such a WOW factor to a card. This is an easy, must try project.

Supplies Needed:

1 sheet 8 1/2" x 5 1/2 card stock --- this is the card base.

1 piece 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" heavy duty aluminum foil - Heavy duty is extremely important
Stampin' Up! Manhattan Flower textured impressions embossing folder (item #114517)
Bone Folder (item #102300)

SNAIL Adhesive (item #104332)

Big Shot Die Cut Machine (item #113429)

This is the Stampin' Up! Manhattan Flower textured impressions embossing folder. It is one of 3 designs that we now have in our catalog.

Score your 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" sheet of carstock at 4 1/4".

Using your bone folder, crisply crease your card in half on the score line you just made.

Cut the heavy duty foil to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".

Place foil in the folder shiny side up or down. With this card, it will not matter.

Your Big Shot Sandwich (the way the pieces are layered before putting thru the Big Shot) is:

Multi-Purpose Platform opened to tab 1

1 standard cutting pad

Manhattan Flower folder with foil inside

1 standard cutting pad

Crank the sandwich thru the Big Shot (die cutting machine).

Gently open the Manhattan Flower Folder. This is the back side (image is indented not raised).

Pull gently back on the upper corner so that the foil will release. The foil will be somewhat stiff and will be easy to handle. Remove from folder and set aside.

Using SNAIL adhesive, mark a frame line (all four sides) of your cardstock front. Then add in a couple more lines in the middle. DO NOT add adhesive to the foil as it will rip.

Take the foil embossed image with the raised image being the front, working from the bottom up and adhere it to the cardstock front. Smooth out any air bubbles.

I did NOT add in any greeting or sentiment, but it could be easily done using a stamped image on cardstock and using a paper punch.

I tried highlighting the flower foil image with ink and a sponge. It looked GREAT. However the ink does not adhere to the foil at all and came off on my fingers even after waiting 30 minutes. therefore, my recommendation is to NOT stamp directly on the foil or to use ink to color it.

Another tip is to NOT use double sided tape to adhere the foil to the cardstock. Because the foil is so thin, the tape lines may show thru.
