Joy Fold Card Tutorial - Elephants

I have a very dear friend (MaryT) who collects elephants. This card is dedicated to her and is being done in her honor as her birthday is June 24th. Happy Birthday a bit early MaryT. You are always a GREAT inspiration to me with my card making, thank you. But most of all you are a wonderful friend.

The tutorial today is for the Joy Fold card. I am using a number of brand new Stampin' Up! products for this card. The new IN COLORS and DSP (Designer Series Paper) are not available until July 1st. Items can be ordered directly thru me or from my Stampin' Up! Website.

Here are your paper cut sizes, which paper I used, etc. Each paper is numbered for easy reference:

1. 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" -- this is the base of your card. Crushed Curry

2. 3" x 8" --- this is for the insert that folds over. Crushed Curry

3. 2 3/4" x 4" --- for the left front panel. Tall Tales DSP

4. 5 1/4" x 4" --- for the inside back of card. Tall Tales DSP

5. 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" --- for the insert (inside panel) that folds over. Tall Tales DSP

6. 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" --- for the insert (front panel) that folds over. Whisper White cardstock

It is extremely important if you are using a patterned paper that has a specific up and down OR side to side pattern that you watch your cuts. The original directions that I obtained for the bird Joy Fold card (my previous post) gave paper cut sizes with the smaller size always being listed first. If you are using solid paper or paper with an all over designs that doesn't have a specific direction, that works fine. My first cuts would of caused the birds to be facing the wrong direction. I have listed the sizes to show them as they would be attached to the card. Hope that makes sense. It is also one of the reasons I have numbered and pictured the papers. Again, solid papers and all over designs without directions will be a breeze. Directional prints just take a little bit more attention to detail when making.

Score Paper #1 at 3". Do not fold until you have attached Paper #4 to it.

Attach Paper #4 to Paper #1 using SNAIL adhesive. I centered it in the area to the right of the score line.

Using your bone folder, fold the panel over and crease.

Using Snail Adhesive, attached Paper # 3 to this panel (shown attached in next photo)

Score Paper #2 at 4". Do NOT fold yet.

Attached using SNAIL adhesive to Paper #5.

Stamp your greeting on Paper #5. This is from "On your Birthday" stamp set - Item #111664. I used Chocolate Chip stamp pad for the greeting.

Also using the Chocolate Chip stamp pad, I stamped 2 elephants on Paper #6 (whisper white) from our new stamp set called "Animal Stories". They are a perfect match to the paper design. Then using SNAIL adhesive attached them to the outside of the panel (Paper #2).

Using the bone folder, fold and crease the panel at your score line.

Attached the completed panel to the inside of the card using SNAIL adhesive. I centered the top and bottom then did the right side approximately the same distance. Do not be concerned that the left margin is slightly wider.

This photo shows the panel attached and closed. When you open this part, the birthday greeting is underneath. The panel is closed over the card front when given, this photo was for demonstration purposes only. Gives the spacing perspective of the margins around the insert.

Using scraps of your DSP, punch out a 1 1/4" circle and a 3/4" circle. This is the same paper, it is two sided. I made a point of cutting out the elephant for my center design. Glue the two pieces together.

Attach a dimensional (use only one) to the back of the larger circle and place in the lower left corner of your card. This will act as a "holder" for the card insert when the card is closed. If you add in more than one dimensional, it will not allow the panel to close properly.
